There are a lot of house painters in San Diego. A quick Google search for phrases like “house painters San Diego” or “painting companies in San Diego” will give you an overwhelming number of results. It can be difficult to differentiate between all of the various San Diego house painters, so you might be tempted to just go with the painting company that gives you the lowest bid. After all, isn’t house painting pretty straightforward? Well, there’s more to it than you may think. And taking a few extra steps can make all the difference in the world when it comes to a paint job that lasts many years, and one that doesn’t hold up.

Our Process for Exterior Paint Prep

Like many professional San Diego house painters, we know that the prep process is the most important step in exterior house painting. Before we even open a paint can, our team goes over the entire exterior of your home to get it ready for paint.

First, we pressure wash the areas that will be painted. Then, we scrape off any peeling or bubbling paint. After that is done, we scuff sand any areas that need it. We patch all of the holes or cracks in your exterior walls and replace damaged trim. Then we mask your windows and cover your plants and hardscape to protect them from overspray.

All reputable house painting companies should take the steps listed above. Proper preparation of the surfaces to be painted will go a long way toward extending the life of your paint job.

The One Extra Step We Take in Exterior House Painting in San Diego

After the prep work is completed, most San Diego house painters will spray the exterior of your home, clean up after themselves, and leave. But at PaintGreen, we take one extra, very important step.

After we spray your exterior walls, we go back over the entire surface with a roller. This is called “back-rolling,” and this one extra step can extend the life of your paint job up to 100% over one that wasn’t back-rolled!

The physical pressure of manually back-rolling walls, fascia, etc. allows the paint to get into all of the low spots, which is especially important for exterior surfaces with texture, such as wood siding, eves, and fascia. Does it take extra time? Yes. Is it worth the effort? Absolutely!

To the casual observer, there may be no visual difference in a home that was back-rolled and one that wasn’t. The difference will be in how the paint job holds up over time. A home that was back-rolled will look better for longer and will save homeowners money in the long run, since their house won’t have to have to be repainted anytime soon.

As a San Diego painting company that is committed to reducing our environmental impact, this is another way we operate in an eco-friendly manner (in addition to our use of Low and No VOC paint). Homes with quality paint jobs don’t need to be painted as often, which requires fewer resources to be consumed.
